Daylight Savings Time

I found this on the intranet at work and thought it was interesting. See below:

Daylight Saving Time 2010, Sunday, March 14th

http://intranet/images/defaul60.gifMost of the United States, Canada and some of northern Mexico’s border regions will spring forward for daylight saving time (DST) on Sunday, March 14, 2010. On this day, the clocks will move one hour forward from 2am (02:00) to 3am (03:00) local time. DST allows for more light during the evening hours and less in the morning.

The March 14 daylight saving date in 2010 is the latest starting date for the United States’ and Canada’s daylight saving schedule, which begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November each year.

Who Changed the Time?

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed both the starting and ending dates for springing ahead and falling behind. Beginning in 2007, daylight time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. The U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., sets what is known as standard time in the country through its maintenance of atomic clocks. These dates were established by Congress in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Pub. L. no. 109-58, 119 Stat 594 (2005).
